Registration Assessment ISO/TS 16949

ISO/TS 16949, in synergy with ISO 9001, imparts requirements for the design and development, production and, when relevant, installation and service of automotive-related products.ISO/TS 16949 is applicable to sites of the organization where customer-specified parts, for production and/or service, are manufactured. Supporting functions, whether on-site or remote (such as design centers, corporate headquarters and distribution centers), form part of the site audit as they support the site, but cannot obtain stand-alone certification to ISO/TS 16949. ISO/TS 16949 can be applied throughout the automotive supply chain. The global automotive industry demands world class levels of product quality, productivity and competitiveness as well as continual improvement. To achieve this goal many vehicle manufacturers insist that suppliers are certified to the quality management standard for suppliers to the automotive sector, ISO/TS 16949.

ISO/TS 16949 Requires that the management:

Promotes continual improvement
Emphasizes defect prevention, and
Emphasizes continual waste and variation reduction.

The Standard is based on ISO 9001 standard with additional common automotive industry requirements. The requirements are encompassed in 5 clauses, namely:

  1. Quality Management System,
  2. Management Responsibility,
  3. Resource Management,
  4. Product Realization,
  5. Measurement, Analysis & Improvement.

The benefits of being certified to ISO/TS 16949 Standard includes but not limited to:

Quality improvement in product & process,
Additional confidence to the customers,
Common approach for managing Quality Management System,
Reassignment of resources to quality improvement and
Reduction in the multiple 3rd party registrations.

The BSCIC ISO/TS 16949 certification involves a two-stage audit process for certification:

Stage 1 is a preliminary, informal review of the ISO/TS 16949 , for example checking the existence and completeness of key documentation such as the organization's Quality Manual, Document containing core tools e.g. SPC, MSA, FMEA, APQP and PPAP etc
Stage 2 is a more detailed and formal compliance audit, independently testing the Quality against the requirements specified in ISO/TS 16949. The auditors will seek evidence to confirm that the management system has been properly designed and implemented, and is in fact in operation (for example by confirming that a committee or similar management body meets regularly to oversee the ISO /TS 16949). BSCIC Certification audits are conducted by ISO/TS 16949 Lead Auditors.
